Wiang Kum Kam
Ruins of the ancient capital of the Lanna Kingdom
Wiang Kum Kam is a historical site South of the town of Chiang Mai. The site contains the ruins of a 13th century fortified city encircled by moats. The ancient town was rediscovered by chance when local people dug up ancient votive tablets buried in the ground.
Excavations of Wiang Kum Kam started in the 1980’s. The site was cleared of overgrowth and a number of monuments was partly restored by the Thai Fine Arts Department.

Lanna rice reseach center
During the rainy season, the rice will slowly grow bigger and greener. From July onward become intense green color and many people find them at their most beautiful during this time. Towards October the rice will start to mature and the fields will slowly turn from green to golden yellow. This is probably the best season to plan your visit as the chances of rain are considerably lower. Depending on the season, the rice harvest will happen in November and December.
